As a Plant Operator III you'll work under the general supervision of the Plant Operations Supervisor, and, in addition to day-to-day duties, you'll participate in special projects as well as maintain effective relationships with plant personnel, citizens, and community groups. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or a GED issued by a state department of education, and four years of experience as an operator in a Class I wastewater facility or higher.

Appointees within this classification are subject to a criminal background check, driving record check and pre-employment physical prior to employment to the satisfaction of the employer.
Positions within this classification are considered essential to the maintenance and continuity of core county operations during the activation of an emergency or critical incident.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to climb up to 35 ft., on ladders and scaffolding. Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 lbs. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in written form is crucial for engaging with colleagues and customers through phone calls, or face-to-face meetings. Must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment and use other automated technology to input, access and retrieve information from a laptop or desktop. Visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitors such as GIS maps. Must be able to physically negotiate rough terrain on uneven ground such as hills, wooded and marshy areas to make direct observation of work in progress including recognizing unforeseen hazards such as sharp objects, warning signs, slippery surfaces, steep depressions, tripping hazards. Must be able to push, pull, lift, bend, stoop, walk, climb/crouch, crawl, stand and reach to work in demanding and uncomfortable positions for extended durations. This is necessary to manipulate materials with manual dexterity, utilize hoses, and operate units that are up to 12 feet in height. Additionally, this includes setting up and performing maintenance access in authorized confined spaces, which involves entering and exiting catch basins and manholes. According to safety regulations, individuals who weigh 310 lbs. or more are prohibited from entering confined spaces. Must be physically fit to perform manual labor in all types of environments. This requires the ability to endure variable and extreme weather conditions such as hot, cold, during rain, noisy environments, etc., and the ability to work around and in contact with raw sewage. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

BONUS ELIGIBILITY:
Positions within this classification that are general merit may be eligible for a one-time hiring incentive bonus for new county employees only. This bonus program requires a signed payback agreement between the department and employee.
