Plant Reliability Mechanic (PLC & VFD Specialist)

Where: East Chicago, IN

Pay: Up to $37.82/hr DOE

Hire Type: Direct hire via Integrity Trade Services

When do you work?

  • 3rd shift: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m., four on/four off
  • Training kicks off on 1st shift (typically 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.; some sessions may run to 7:00 p.m.)

What will you do?

  • Preventive and corrective maintenance on motors, pneumatics, conveyors, and production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC, and controls using schematics, manuals, and test gear.
  • Drive root‑cause analysis and deliver immediate and lasting repairs.
  • Use hand/power tools, hoists, cranes, precision gauges, and machine shop equipment to repair or replace parts.
  • Fabricate parts and components to support repairs and lower costs.
  • Handle overhead crane PMs, monthly inspections, and corrective work.
  • Work with Automax, shark IO cards, PLC systems; replace racks, cards, and power supplies to restore throughput.
  • Operate machinery during troubleshooting when operators are unavailable.
  • Provide phone‑based technical guidance to speed resolution.
  • Manage spares and MRO inventory; monitor and reorder as needed.
  • Champion PM best practices and continuous improvement to reduce downtime.
  • Document all work, communicate equipment status, and coordinate with production, supervisors, and maintenance.
  • Uphold 5S—safe, clean, organized work areas.
  • Contribute across repairs, maintenance activities, and process enhancements.

What do you need to bring?

  • Training/education in Automation, HVAC, Fluid Power, Basic Electricity, Industrial Wiring, Electrical Circuits, PLCs, Technical Math.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of AC/DC motors and controls; instrumentation and complex troubleshooting experience.
  • Heavy manufacturing background preferred.
  • Skill in diagnosing, repairing, and optimizing mech/elec systems.
  • VFD expertise: parameters, codes, and programming fundamentals.
  • Fluency with industrial terminology and maintenance methods.
  • Fabrication capability for parts and components.
  • Accuracy with rules, calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools.
  • Resourceful problem solver comfortable with unfamiliar issues.
  • Team mindset, self‑motivation, strong organization, and attention to detail.
  • Must pass the NMP maintenance exam.
  • Clear communicator with operations, supervision, suppliers, and maintenance peers.
