This is an Exempt position.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the sanitation and GMP process for the Decatur East Plant and is an active member of the Quality Team, providing support functions as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and maintain plant Sanitation, Hygiene and GMP systems in compliance with the Plant and Corporate Quality Policies, including training for GMP and cleaning
  • Plan, develop and implement Sanitation Standards and Goals
  • Audit all activities necessary for the cleaning and sanitizing of production and production equipment ensuring that all duties are performed in accordance with FDA regulations including SOP''s, HACCP, GMP''s, all safety policies and company procedures
  • Monitor the results of the Daily and Master Sanitation Schedules so that the required practices are performed on a timely basis.
  • Perform field inspections and sign off on daily Master Sanitation Schedule activities in the assigned areas of the plant. Provide coaching and correction when conditions of the plant do not align with the completion of the Master Sanitation Schedule.
  • Oversee Pest Control Program to ensure proper controls within the facility
  • Monitor the results of the Environmental Monitoring Program to ensure sanitation practices support the reduction of micro in the plant environment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve persistent sanitation issues
  • Identify infrastructure maintenance/capital for sanitation related improvements
  • Monitor and order Sanitation Supplies to ensure that proper supplies are on hand to clean and sanitize the facility
  • Respond to reports of sanitation problems as identified by audits or regulatory agency interaction
  • Manage the chemical control program in the assigned areas of the plant
  • Maintain a safe working environment, and is engaged in plant initiatives
  • In collaboration with the QA Manager, advise the Plant Management Team on matters of sanitation and hygiene as may be required to promote high product quality standard.
  • Oversee duties of contract plant janitorial and cleaning services staff
  • Lead and train the contract cleaning staff
  • Understand their role in food safety and quality systems, actively participates in food safety efforts and ensures all activities conform to good manufacturing practices.

Job Qualifications:

  • Preferred 4 year degree or 6 year Food Safety experience
  • Five or more years of food plant sanitation, quality assurance or operations management experience
  • Internal auditing experience
  • Working knowledge of document management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other data bases
  • Knowledge of applicable food regulations and requirement

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work across functions
  • Creative/analytical problem solving skills and innovative approaches to resolve complex problems
  • Strong Microsoft office skills such as PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Demonstrated experience of effective leadership working closely with regulatory agencies or vendors
  • Solid systems understanding and ability to identify improvements needed
  • Hands on management style and solid communication ability
  • Able to effectively interface within all levels of the organization
  • Ability to make decisions based on information and data available
  • Ability to work as a team member and provide training.

  • The scope of the position requires exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed

  • Inside areas:

  • Spring /Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees

  • Outside areas:

  • Spring /Summer: Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity. May be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind

  • Fall /Winter: Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below; may be exposed to inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind

  • Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to move materials and equipment weighing up to 55 pounds
  • Able to traverse up to two (2) miles during the course of a work day
  • Able to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling or squatting frequently during the course of a work day. May require periods of prolonged sitting or standing
  • Able to operate equipment or diagnose / detect issues of machinery that may be located at different heights. May require work on ladders, scaffolding or other work at heights
  • Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools and electrical test equipment, to move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heights.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

The pay range for this position is expected to be between:

$60,300.00 - $110,400.00
