Plant Technician - Power Plant

POSITION SUMMARY:

The person holding this position safely operates power plant equipment from the Control Room, Monitors plant performance, and takes corrective actions based on independent judgment of alarms received. Also coordinates activities and directs Auxiliary Technicians and others in the Plant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following is a partial listing of responsibilities:

1. Understands and adheres to all plant safety guidelines and procedures. Strive to maintain an injury free environment. Provide safety stewardship.

2. Controls the plant process and electrical distribution through plant distributive control system (DCS) and other process control devices.

3. As required, conducts regular rounds of equipment and corrects operational problems with equipment. Maintain plant housekeeping standards.

4. As required, performs preventative maintenance on plant equipment and assists plant maintenance group in repair of plant equipment where necessary.

5. As required, performs boiler and cooling tower water quality testing and makes corrections to the process as necessary. Chemical handling is required.

6. Identifies problems with plant equipment and clearly communicates the conditions associated with these problems to the plant maintenance group.

7. Maintains accurate and legible logs and other records of plant operation.

8. Assists in budget planning and control.

9. Participates in plant training and qualification program.

10. Provides leadership to lesser experienced individuals, and may be required to act in supervisors absence.

11. Perform other duties as assigned by Operations Manager or Facility Manager.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

At least 3 years of experience in a power/process environment is preferred. The successful candidate must be dependable, trustworthy, punctual, self-motivated, and in excellent physical condition, must possess excellent communication and team skills, and be able to work rotating shifts and overtime as necessary. Some of the tasks listed will be done with the aid of a computer, others require physical labor. Periods of prolonged standing, sitting, or walking are required. Frequent bending, stooping, stretching, in addition to lifting up to 40 pounds on a repeated basis is required. At least 3 years of experience performing similar work is required. The individual will be required to furnish all basic hand tools according to a list provided by the company. All individuals must demonstrate a strong aptitude in math, mechanical ability, and production control.
