Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Division of Plastic andReconstructive Surgery of the Department of Surgery is the advancement of sciencethrough research and the training of undergraduate and graduate students in ourdiscipline. The Department fosters a level of research and professionalactivity essential to the graduate and to the professional growth of thefaculty. The Division provides junior faculty with clinical and research experiencesthat prepare them for their professional careers. Finally, faculty havea responsibility to provide service to their profession and to the universitycommunity.

 

Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery is recruiting for a collateral, non-tenure track facultyposition in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery.  The faculty member should have clinicalinterests in general plastic surgery, microsurgery, hand surgery, wound management, and have an interest indeveloping an academic practice. The faculty member will support the division in teachingresponsibilities at the VCU Medical Center. 

 

Position Responsibilities: 

Clinical
Facultymember clinical responsibility will be in the care of the Plastic andReconstructive Surgery patients on the MCV campus of VCU, as well as community facilities.  They will be responsible for the developmentof an active surgical practice, with the support of the Division andDepartment’s leadership. 

Teaching
Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in allareas of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with direct oversight to theresident clinics at the VCU Medical Center. 

Research
Faculty member will establish clinical research projectswith medical students and residents to establish evidence based practiceoutcomes in the areas of complex wounds and surgical education.

Service
Faculty member will serve on departmental and hospital committeesas assigned and participate in regional and national professionalorganizations.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be board certified/board eligible in plastic and reconstructive surgery
  • Commitment to resident education and teaching
  • Commitment to clinical research and innovation
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Candidate with fellowship experience in hand and microsurgery
