We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Advisor – Plastics Extrusion to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting our 2nd shift operations. This role will provide technical leadership, guidance, and troubleshooting expertise for extrusion processes and equipment, helping to optimize performance, improve product quality, and drive operational efficiency. This is a great opportunity for a plastics extrusion expert who enjoys solving complex problems, mentoring others, and making a direct impact on manufacturing performance during critical off-shift operations. This position reports to the Engineering Manager. The shift schedule is M-F 2:00p - 10:30p with flexibility to be available outside of core hours if needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical expert for plastics extrusion processes and equipment on 2nd shift
- Provide hands-on troubleshooting and root cause analysis for process and equipment issues
- Support production teams in optimizing extrusion parameters for quality and efficiency
- Partner with engineering, maintenance, and operations to implement process improvements
- Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield, scrap reduction, and uptime
- Develop and standardize best practices, work instructions, and process documentation
- Train and mentor operators, technicians, and supervisors on extrusion technologies and processes
- Assist in new product introductions, trials, and process validations
- Evaluate equipment performance and recommend upgrades or modifications as needed
- Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards
Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in plastics extrusion, with deep technical expertise
- HS Diploma or GED
- Strong knowledge of extrusion equipment, tooling, materials, and processing parameters
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex process and mechanical issues
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence across teams
- Ability to work independently and support off-shift operations
