Shape what’s next in life sciences manufacturing

At Beckman Coulter Life Sciences—one of Danaher’s operating companies—we accelerate answers for scientists through smart automation and rigorous engineering. If you’re ready to turn ideas into impact, you’ll fit right in.

We value diverse perspectives, continuous improvement, and the ingenuity it takes to keep complex operations running at their best. Explore how we work through the Danaher Business System.

    A day in the life

Morning begins on the production floor in Indianapolis, IN, where you review overnight equipment performance with operations. An injection molding press needs attention—you dig into PLC diagnostics, confirm a VFD parameter set, and bring the cell back to full rate. Midday, you coach a tech through hydraulic troubleshooting on a blow-molder while coordinating PMs on chillers and air compressors. By afternoon, you’re installing a new vision sensor and validating controls updates on an automated EOAT—closing the loop with engineering on the improvement plan. Throughout the day, safety, uptime, and clear communication guide every move.

    What you’ll tackle
    • Lead preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for plastics manufacturing assets: injection and blow molding machines, automation cells, temperature control units, mold controllers, material handling systems, air compressors, chillers, and related utilities.
    • Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and controls issues—including PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, servo drives, robotics, vision systems, automatic sequencing, sensors, circuit boards, temperature controls, and motor protection.
    • Rebuild auxiliary systems as needed (pumps, vacuum equipment, heat exchangers) to restore performance and reliability.
    • Partner with engineering on installs, modifications, validations, and optimizations across machines, robots, EOATs, vision hardware, controls, sensors, cabling, and other production technologies.
    • Act as a hands-on leader: prioritize maintenance work, coordinate daily labor, communicate equipment status, and be the go-to technical resource during complex troubleshooting.
    What you’ll bring
    • Associate degree or equivalent technical training plus 6+ years in industrial maintenance.
    • Advanced, cross-disciplinary knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, automation, and industrial controls.
    • Ability to read and interpret electrical/mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic schematics, product drawings, and OEM documentation.
    • Proven leadership coordinating maintenance activities and elevating team performance.
    • Safety-first mindset, strong problem-solving, clear communication, and skilled use of tools, diagnostic equipment, and precision instruments.
    Nice to have
    • Root cause analysis expertise, durable corrective actions, and continuous improvement for reliability, uptime, and quality.
    • Experience with equipment installation/commissioning, SAT, qualifications/validations, decommissioning, CMMS, spare parts, vendor coordination, and procurement.
    • Background in plastics operations: injection/blow molding, robotics, industrial networking, machine controls, and quality systems in regulated environments.
    Role details
    • Location: On-site in Indianapolis, IN.
    • Reports to: Plastics Engineering Manager as part of the Plastics Manufacturing Engineering Team.
    • Physical/environmental: Ability to lift, move, or carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
    Proficiencies we value
    • Mechanical troubleshooting
    • Troubleshooting industrial automation equipment
    • Injection molding and blow molding experience
    • Hydraulics
    • General troubleshooting aptitude across systems
