    As a Plastics Molding Equipment Reliability Technician, you’ll be the first responder for complex equipment issues across our injection molding operation. You’ll hunt down root causes, restore performance, and build preventive strategies that keep our lines running safely and efficiently.

    A day in the life

    You start your shift with a quick scan of overnight alerts in our ERP, then walk the floor to listen, look, and feel for early signs of failure. A press hesitates—your diagnostic instincts kick in. You apply a Plan–Do–Check–Act approach to validate the fault, dismantle components to access the problem area, measure critical parts for wear or misalignment, and make the fix—mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic—before bringing the machine back online and verifying performance to minimize downtime.

    Midday, you pivot to scheduled PMs across molding cells, automation, and building systems. You document every finding, replace worn drive components, track down a leaking hydraulic line, cut and thread new piping, and restart equipment to confirm proper function. You also mentor a teammate through a troubleshooting sequence and close with a safety walk to spot and report potential risks to people or equipment.

    What you’ll tackle

    • Investigate suspect manufacturing equipment and perform strategic troubleshooting to identify true root causes of failures.
    • Execute preventive maintenance and corrective repairs to improve reliability of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems on injection molding machines and supporting automation, material handling, robotics, and custom cells.
    • Perform building/facilities maintenance, including critical systems tied to manufacturing controls and HVAC.
    • Use the Plan–Do–Check–Act methodology to drive systematic problem solving and sustainable fixes.
    • Dismantle machinery for access; inspect and measure components to detect wear, misalignment, or damage.
    • Replace worn or defective parts in drive mechanisms and hydraulic systems; locate, measure, cut, thread, and install new air/hydraulic piping as needed.
    • Start/restart equipment post-repair to validate results and reduce downtime before releasing to production.
    • Repair parts or source replacements; document all PM and repair activities in detail.
    • Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on machines, auxiliary equipment, automation cells, and facility assets.
    • Follow all safety regulations; perform safety inspections and recommend mitigations for human and equipment risks.
    • Assist with maintenance for tooling and production equipment prior to application/use.
    • Train, mentor, and coach other technical team members.
    • Maintain reliable, on-time attendance—arrive prepared and ready to work each day; support additional responsibilities as needed.

    Your toolkit

    • Proficiencies: mechanical troubleshooting; pneumatics (including troubleshooting); hydraulics; industrial electrical systems and components; blueprint reading; injection molding processes.
    • Technologies: HVAC systems; Injection Molding Machines (Engel, Arburg, Sumitomo, Toshiba, Nissei); power tools; ERP software; industrial robots.
