    Job Description

    Operates the plate freezing and palletizing equipment

    ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

    Pour product into a plate freezing machine. Reviews production schedule in system. Selects the correct option on crane controls according to standard protocol. Maneuvers crane to center over correct plates per system. Pours product into plates and stops once the load cell displays the correct weight. Smooths product out on the machine.

    Moves frozen plates. Once the freezing cycle is complete, verify the temperature with a calibrated thermometer. Once verified, it uses crane controls to carefully and accurately align the crane with a plate freezing machine. Manipulates the controls to lift up plates, move them to the receiving bed, and release product.

    Directs and monitors the activities of Utility and Forklift Drivers in the assigned room. Directs Forklift operators to bring more pallets as needed. Works through Utility to ensure pallets are loaded into the pallet magazine. Directs Utility to load slip sheets. Answers questions and works to resolve issues as they are presented.

    Inspects and verifies labels. Verified items on takeaway containers have the correct label. Visually inspect to ensure they are wrapped properly. Ensures the label has labels in it. Ensures oracle inputs are done correctly.

    Operates the denaturant container and verifies it has enough chemical, refilling as needed.

    Performs light, basic and routine maintenance on machine. May grease bearings, ensure machine guards are put on properly, apply basic lubrication, and conduct basic pre operation cleaning.

    Responsible for weekly sanitation in accordance with set procedures. Prepares cleaning chemicals; ensures the correct concentration, and ensures the proper cleaning chemicals are loaded. Demonstrates correct lock-out tag procedures.

    Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

    Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

    Physical Activities: Must be able to singularly lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stand freely and move about the facility. Must be able to perform an active range of motion movements as needed. Must be able to work in a cool environment (down to 40 degrees Fahrenheit) for at least 8 hours. Occasional climbing stairs; simple grasping; talking; use of hearing. Constant standing; bending at the neck and waist; power grasping; pushing/pulling; reaching below shoulder level; use of vision. Inside line work around loud equipment/machinery; walking around drains, footbaths, hoses; exposure to cold; wet environment.

    Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Hard hat, safety glasses, smock and safety toed shoes.

    Travel: None.

    Technical Experience: Must be effective at organizing and coordinating many moving parts in a process. Strong math skills required.

    Industry Experience: Preference for poultry or food manufacturing experience.
