Platform & Infrastructure Engineer
Fleet Orchestration AWS JVM Services Production Systems
The Role
This is not a robotics software position it's a platform and infrastructure engineering role that sits inside a robotics program. You'll build the orchestration layer that connects everything: the services, infrastructure, and developer tooling that let the robotics engineers ship faster and keep a growing fleet of robots running reliably in production. If you've built the backend that other teams depend on and take pride in systems that just work, this is your seat.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Design and implement orchestration services that manage fleet-wide operations, task dispatch, and deployment pipelines for robotic systems
  • Own infrastructure from initial design through production deployment and ongoing operational support no hand-offs to a separate ops team
  • Work heavily with AWS as a primary toolset Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, Step Functions, IoT Core, CloudWatch treated as core building blocks, not bolt-on additions
  • Develop primarily in Kotlin and Java; Python is a plus for scripting and internal tooling
  • Build reliable platform primitives that other engineers across the program can confidently depend on to move faster
  • Contribute to code and design reviews and help establish the technical standard as the team scales
What You Bring
Required
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience with a strong foundation in JVM languages (Java and Kotlin)
  • Deep, operational AWS expertise not surface-level familiarity, but real experience designing, deploying, and maintaining production systems on AWS
  • Solid command of distributed systems fundamentals: service reliability, fault tolerance, asynchronous messaging patterns, and eventual consistency
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tooling such as CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform
  • Track record of owning services end to end in production deployments, monitoring, alerting, and on-call responsibility
  • A self-sufficient engineer who navigates large, complex codebases and solves problems independently without heavy guidance
Nice to Have
  • Experience designing microservices architectures and working with container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS)
  • Familiarity with IoT device management patterns or edge/fleet deployment workflows
  • Strong monitoring and observability skills CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus, or similar stacks
  • Any prior exposure to robotics programs, industrial automation, or adjacent domains (not a requirement the platform engineering skills are what matter)
