Job Description:
Staff-level technical lead responsible for end-to-end ownership of industrial diesel generator (genset) product platforms, from concept through launch and lifecycle support.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Own full lifecycle development of industrial diesel generator ( 600kW) product platforms
  • Translate product and business requirements into engineering specifications and design direction
  • Lead and mentor small engineering teams (3–9 mechanical engineers depending on project scope)
  • Drive technical roadmaps, new product introductions, and sustaining engineering efforts
  • Make design and component-level decisions (materials, systems, tradeoffs, cost vs. performance)
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product marketing, manufacturing, procurement, and test teams
  • Support voice-of-customer input and convert feedback into engineering improvements
  • Oversee product validation, performance, durability, and compliance testing
  • Ensure programs stay on track for timeline, cost, and technical execution goals

Requirements:

  • Must-Haves:
    • Mechanical Engineering degree (ABET-accredited)
    • 5–7 years of experience in mechanical engineering / product development
    • Hands-on experience with diesel internal combustion engines and engine integration
    • Strong background in thermodynamics, stress analysis, and mechanical systems
    • Experience in gensets, diesel power systems, heavy equipment, or industrial engines
    • Proven ability to lead or mentor engineers in technical environments (informal leadership acceptable)
    • End-to-end product development ownership (concept production)
    • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills (engineering, procurement, manufacturing, product)
    • Ability to operate in a matrix organization and influence without direct authority
  • Nice-to-Haves:
    • Direct generator (genset) industry experience (Caterpillar, Cummins, John Deere, Generac, etc.)
    • Familiarity with Creo or equivalent 3D CAD tools
    • SAP experience
    • Exposure to cost engineering, supplier selection, or manufacturing optimization
    • Strong persuasion and stakeholder management skills
    • Experience building technical product roadmaps
