Own the Melt: Lead Design, Steward Platinum, Elevate Production

Imagine watching a new line ignite on first heat—stable, efficient, and compliant—because you connected the dots between design rigor, material stewardship, and shop-floor execution. That’s the impact of this role.

Your impact

  • Translate process needs into robust glass melting equipment using SolidWorks and verify performance with flow, thermal, and fatigue modeling.
  • Deliver complete manufacturing packages—2D drawings, assemblies, BOMs, and Job Instruction Documents—to build right the first time.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for melting issues linked to equipment fabrication and maintenance.
  • Supervise a union workforce (welders, masons, CNC operators), elevating safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
  • Support installations and guide technicians through start-up qualifications until equipment is production-ready.
  • Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) and ensure equipment compliance via Certificates of Conformance (CoCs).

Material leadership and global coordination

  • Serve as the business liaison to Germany-based central services on platinum-related topics.
  • Act as the business custodian for platinum, representing the company in interactions with government authorities and financial auditors.
  • Forecast platinum usage, consumption, and recycling plans to safeguard availability and manage cost.
  • Purchase raw earth/noble materials (including but not limited to platinum and iridium), refractory and insulation materials, CNC tools, and mold-making equipment.
  • Structure and maintain shop storage locations using SAP for accuracy and traceability.

What you’ll need

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Welding Engineering; or an equivalent mix of education and 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • At least 1 year of SolidWorks design/modeling experience, with:
    • Working knowledge of FEA for flow/thermal/fatigue checks
    • Proficiency in 2D drawings and assembly creation
    • BOM creation and maintenance
    • Competence in design tolerancing
  • 1+ year in welding technology (preferred).
  • 1+ year with refractory cutting, molding, and application (preferred).
  • 1+ year in CNC programming and/or tool-and-die work.
  • 1+ year leading teams or supervising (preferred).
  • Advanced MS Office skills; basic familiarity with SAP and/or Oracle.

Essential proficiencies

  • Production welding setups
  • Blueprint reading

Why you’ll thrive here

This is a hands-on engineering role where design excellence meets operational leadership. You’ll champion compliance, quality, and material stewardship—especially platinum—while guiding a skilled, union team to consistent, high-performance melts.
