PLC/HMI Automation Engineer — Vision-Guided Systems

Schedule: Full-time | 8am–5pm
Location: Grand Rapids

Your mission

Build the next wave of smart manufacturing. Lead new automation installations with SCARA robots and machine vision, while strengthening daily production and driving continuous improvement.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Architect and implement control systems for complex automated equipment
  • Integrate and tune vision-guided robotics for precision pick-and-place
  • Develop machine vision routines for detection, alignment, and error-proofing
  • Stabilize uptime by troubleshooting robotic, vision, and controls issues
  • Write and optimize PLC, HMI, VFD, and motion control logic
  • Diagnose PLC, PC, NC, and CNC problems
  • Execute validation with cross-functional engineering teams and meet project deadlines
  • Deliver technical support to production and maintenance while partnering across functions
  • Advance manufacturing via process improvements, product lifecycle work, and quality initiatives
  • Resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment issues
  • Support new product launches from quote through production
  • Champion Lean, Kaizen, and continuous improvement activities
  • Collaborate with QA on root cause investigations and corrective actions
  • Lead or assist with automation CapEx projects, meeting schedule and budget commitments

What sets you up for success

  • 5+ years in industrial robotics or automation
  • Substantial experience with machine vision technologies
  • Strong PLC programming and automation controls background
  • Demonstrated project management capability
  • Industrial or automotive manufacturing exposure preferred
  • 2D CAD required; 3D CAD preferred
  • Lean Manufacturing familiarity is beneficial
  • Independent problem-solver with strong ownership

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Controls Engineering, Industrial Automation, or related discipline

Physical requirements

  • Comfortable working on the production floor for extended periods
