Job Summary
The PLTW/STEM Teacher brings science and technology to life by leading hands-on, project-based lessons that spark curiosity and turn students into young innovators. By implementing the Project Lead The Way curriculum, this educator fosters a classroom culture of discovery, teamwork, and creative problem-solving.
In this role, you will help students develop the "maker mindset" needed to tackle real-world challenges through collaboration, design, and critical thinking, ensuring every student builds a confident foundation for their future in STEM.
Primary Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging PLTW and STEM lessons aligned with district curriculum, Wisconsin DPI standards, and best practices in STEM education.
Implement project-based and hands-on learning experiences in engineering, computer science, biomedical science, and other STEM disciplines as appropriate.
Use culturally responsive and evidence-based instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including those with IEPs, 504 plans, English learners, and gifted learners.
Develop, administer, and analyze formative and summative assessments, including performance-based assessments aligned with PLTW and state standards.
Facilitate student collaboration, teamwork, and communication skills through STEM projects and PLTW modules.
Maintain a safe, organized, and productive STEM learning environment, including labs and makerspaces.
Maintain accurate student records, attendance, grades, project documentation, and other required documentation.
Communicate clearly with students, families, and colleagues regarding academic progress, project outcomes, and interventions.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences, meetings, and school events, specifically showcasing student projects and learning outcomes
Coordinate with special educators, reading/math interventionists, counselors, and other support staff as needed.
Engage in professional development, PLTW workshops, coaching, peer observation, and reflective practice.
Contribute to school improvement initiatives, curriculum development, and PLTW/STEM program planning.
Stay current with educational research, STEM trends, PLTW updates, and Wisconsin DPI standards.
Uphold legal, ethical, and policy compliance (e.g., FERPA, Wisconsin DPI statutes, district policies).
Participate in the district's teacher evaluation process or performance framework.
Assist with school events or duties as assigned by the administration.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Valid state teaching license/certification for the appropriate grade level(s) and subject area(s).
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in education or a relevant field.
Approaches complex classroom or technical challenges with an analytical, creative, and "can-do" mindset.
Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogy, classroom management, and assessment.
Commitment to equity, inclusive practices, and culturally responsive teaching.
