    Holtz Children''s Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the southeast United States, where UHealth - University of Miami Health System physicians treat children from throughout Florida and the Caribbean. Holtz Children''s is known worldwide for its care of critically ill newborns in its neonatal intensive care unit, which is one of the largest in the United States and boasts some of the best medical outcomes. In collaboration with the Miami Transplant Institute, Holtz Children''s is one of only three centers in the country that specializes in pediatric multi-organ transplants. It is home to one of only three state-accredited comprehensive children''s kidney failure centers and one of the largest pediatric kidney transplant programs in the world. The Children''s Heart Center at Holtz Children''s is the only comprehensive children''s heart program in South Florida. In partnership with the University of Miami, Holtz Children''s also trains the most pediatric physicians of any medical center in the southeastern United States.

    Summary

    Plumber performs skilled work at the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems, fixtures and accessories. Employees in this classification are responsible for performing skilled plumbing tasks in accordance with standard trade practices. Duties include determining work methods and required materials, cutting and installing pipes, performing a variety of plumbing repair and maintenance tasks, and utilizing specialized tools and testing instruments of the plumbing trade.

    Responsibilities

    • Installs, maintains and repairs valves, faucets, sterilizers, bathtubs, sinks, lavatories, sewers, vents, drinking fountains, water heaters and other fixtures.
    • Maintains a positive attitude toward superiors, co-workers, patients and customers in general.
    • Installs, maintains and repairs gas lines, valves, alarms and related equipment.
    • Observes established safety practices and procedures.
    • Operates and uses specialized plumbing tools and equipment such as ratchet cutters, reamers, electric and gasoline powered sewer snakes, pipe wrenches, chain wrenches and pipe vices.
    • Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches and diagrams.
    • Cleans and flushes boilers, storage and return tanks, hot water heaters and similar equipment.
    • Repairs, replaces and checks high- and low-pressure steam boilers, blows down and flushes boilers; checks, repairs and replaces safety devices and controls as necessary.
    • Installs pipe and hoses on fire trucks, spray trucks, and other specialized equipment and apparatus.
    • Maintains piping systems by opening clogged drains with plungers or other devices; snakes-out pipes and fixtures, replaces washers on leaky faucets; tests for leaks by filling pipe with water under pressure and checking fall pressure with gauges.
    • Installs irrigation systems including pumps, pressure tanks, sprinkler controls and connectors.
    • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
    • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

    Experience

    Generally, requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.

    Education

    High School diploma is required.

    Skill

Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions.     Credentials

    Valid Journeyman plumber''s license required.
