The purpose of this position is to perform skilled plumbing work to include, installation, maintenance, and repair of primary and secondary campus plumbing systems; and perform limited elevator maintenance.
Essential Job Duties
Identify and resolve plumbing problems by clearing, repairing, and replacing pipes, fittings, valves, plugged drains, faucets, and toilet repairs.
Perform preventive maintenance on restrooms, swimming pools, septic systems, and related piping systems.
Service, repair, and maintain all types of control valves by removing, disassembling, inspecting and replacing worn/broken parts if necessary, and reassembling and reinstalling.
Read and use blueprints, sketches or drawings for specifications and dimensions for the plumbing work involved. Follow oral work instructions when required.
Store all equipment used to perform plumbing work. Must account for all labor and material. Must fill out necessary work orders of paperwork required.
Determine proper materials for the particular assignment at hand so that equipment and materials are matched properly for the application.
Remodel old plumbing systems prepare a bill of materials needed, and then construct the new systems, according to plan by using appropriate equipment.
Install rough-in and finish work for new construction by installing main sewers, manholes, storm drains, acid waste, compressed air, vacuum, natural gas, fire hydrants and water distribution trunk lines, connect sinks, and drains.
Install, repair, and test backflow preventers and vacuum breakers on equipment and double check valves on all potable water connections as required by the IPC and Alabama rules and regulations.
Perform assigned preventative maintenance checks on valves, pumps, water heaters, and other operating equipment.
Oversee the performance and training of plumber apprentices or student workers.

Additional Duties
Provide 24 hour on-call service as needed.

Ability to work on-call and before/after normal work hours as requested.
