Job Summary: The Plumber Journeyman is responsible for studying building plans, installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems while adhering to safety and quality standards. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:- Study building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and the sequence of installations.
- Inspect structures to identify obstructions and potential issues that may weaken the structure during pipe installation.
- Locate and mark the position of pipes and connections, as well as passage holes for pipes in walls and floors using measuring tools.
- Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipes and fittings, using hand tools and power tools.
- Cut and thread pipes using pipe cutters, cutting torches, and pipe-threading machines.
- Bend pipes to the required angles using pipe-bending machines or hand techniques.
- Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of various materials, including metals like iron, steel, brass, and lead, as well as nonmetals such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic.
- Join pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and calk joints.
- Test plumbing systems by filling them with water or air and reading pressure gauges to check for leaks.
- Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, bathtubs, water heaters, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on plumbing systems, including replacing washers in faucets, mending burst pipes, and unclogging drains.
- May provide data to Automated Information Systems (AIS).
- Perform duties in accordance with AR 750-1, AR 710-2, AR 735-5, AR 200–1, AR 58–1, AR 750-10, AR 750-6, DA Pam 750–8, TB MED 750-1, TM–10, TM–20, TM-30, manufacturer's instructions or operating manuals, current DLA Disposition Services (DLADS) disposal guidelines, AR 420–1, AR 190-11, and Department of Defense Uniformed Facilities Code (UFC).
Qualifications:- High school diploma / GED equivalent preferred.
- Journeyman certification in plumbing required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of related plumbing experience.
- Proficiency in interpreting building plans and drawings.
- Strong technical skills in pipe installation, repair, and maintenance.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of plumbing materials and tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Physical ability to perform the required job functions.
