Expected Pay Rate: $25 - $28 per hour

The Plumber is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems for manufactured products and construction supply. The Plumber will read and interpret blueprints and other design documents, install pipes, fixtures, and water supply/drainage systems, and troubleshoot malfunctions to ensure safety, efficiency, and code compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities / Essential Functions 

• Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and written specifications to determine plumbing system layouts.
• Measure and mark locations for pipe installations, connections, openings, and fixtures using tools such as rulers, levels, and measuring tapes.
• Assemble and install pipe, tubing, and fittings using appropriate materials and techniques, including couplings, clamps, bolts, cement, plastic solvents, caulking, and methods such as soldering, and brazing.
• Secure piping using clamps, brackets, hangers and other support equipment.
• Conduct pressure tests on plumbing systems by introducing water or air and monitoring gauges to identify leaks or system deficiencies.
• Diagnose, maintain, and repair plumbing systems and perform repairs or replacements as needed.
• Assist with other day-to-day production activities in other trade areas.

Skills and Specification 

• Strong understanding of plumbing systems, tools, and installation techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and drawings.
• Demonstrable skill in using soldering and brazing equipment.
• Familiarity with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and copper materials in plumbing applications. 
• Thorough knowledge of industry safety procedures.
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.  
• Ability to follow direction, collaborate effectively, and contribute to team objectives.
• Ability to manage time effectively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365. 

Supervisory Responsibility 

This position does not require the supervision of direct reports. 

Work Environment  

This position operates in professional office, workshop, production facility, and field environments which include working near moving mechanical parts, non-weather wet or humid conditions, and extreme cold and heat, using tools of the trade and other equipment.  

Physical Demands  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to twist, turn, bend, lift, kneel, climb, and stand.  Occasional lifting up to 75 lbs. may occur.  

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work  

This is a full-time, on-site, hourly position. Standard days and hours are 40 hours per week, weekends and extended hours as needed.  Ability to work flexible hours including nights, holidays, and weekends will be required based on business needs. 

DGS will pay a one-time, completely discretionary relocation incentive of $5,000.00 for a qualified applicant to relocate to Rome, NY for daily work at the DGS location there. The incentive will be payable once a qualified and selected candidate provides evidence of relocation and is contingent (vests) upon satisfactory completion of one year of misconduct-free employment, otherwise repayment of the incentive is required. Any offer of employment to a candidate not located in the Rome, NY aera is contingent upon relocation to the vicinity of Rome, NY.

Travel  

Occasional travel will be required.

Required Education and Experience  

• High school graduate or equivalent required.   
• 7+ years’ experience as a plumber/pipefitter in industrial and/or commercial plumbing.  
• Relevant vocational training or successful completed apprenticeship as a plumber. 

Work Authorization / Security Clearance 

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal government security clearance.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check.
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment (post offer) drug test and motor vehicle record review.
• Must possess a valid driver's license compliant with REAL ID requirements.
• Must be able to travel with the Continental United States (CONUS) and outside the Continental United States (OCONUS).
