Performs a full range of plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair work across University facilities to ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant operations. Responsibilities include assembling, installing, and repairing pipe systems, tubing, and fittings using a variety of methods such as soldering, brazing, welding, and mechanical connections. Installs and services plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, showers, water heaters, and related components. Tests plumbing systems by filling with air or water and monitors pressure gauges to detect leaks and deficiencies; diagnoses and resolves issues such as clogs, leaks, and system malfunctions; and performs drain cleaning and system restoration. Reviews blueprints, building codes, and technical specifications to determine appropriate work methods and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and University standards. Estimates labor, time, and material requirements for projects and requisitions necessary supplies and equipment.

Ensures all work is performed in accordance with established safety procedures and maintains a safe and organized work environment.

Placement within the Plumber II-III levels, as well as corresponding compensation, is determined based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities

Plumber II: Works under general supervision. Independently performs a broad range of maintenance and repair tasks. Diagnoses and resolves moderately complex plumbing issues. Demonstrates solid working knowledge of plumbing systems. May provide guidance, training, to less experienced staff.

Plumber III: Works under minimal supervision. Performs advanced troubleshooting, installation, and repair work. Resolves complex plumbing issues and system failures. Demonstrates comprehensive technical expertise. Provides leadership, coaching, and mentoring; may coordinate work of others.

Placement within the Plumber II-III levels, as well as corresponding compensation, is determined based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

Plumber, II: Requires at least 1 year of related experience.

Plumber, III: Requires 3+ years of related experience.
