JOB TITLE: Plumbing Mechanical Inspector DEPARTMENT: Building Housing Codes JOB SUMMARY
The person employed in this capacity will perform his/her duties under the direction of the Director of Building and Housing Codes Department. To enforce residential and commercial building under the 2018 International Plumbing-Gas-Mechanical Code. Perform all other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Conduct inspection of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Enforce current codes adopted by the City of Jackson. Record all code violations of the property. Apply violations to a Code Form Letter" which is mailed to the owner or contractor. Prepare affidavit against the owner if repairs are not completed. Represent the City of Jackson as plaintiff in City Court. Inspections for plumbing, mechanical, and gas code compliance. Write reports describing code violations. Maintain complete records and reports of all inspections. Provide technical support to other inspectors and staff. Discuss code interpretations with inspectors and the public.

REQUIRED EDUCATION DEGREES CERTIFICATES AND OR LICENSE
High School Diploma or G.E.D. Four years of experience in the construction field or college degree in construction, residential, and commercial related to Gas-Plumbing-Mechanical field. Must obtain ICC Residential Plumbing and Mechanical certifications within 12 months of employment. ICC Residential Building Certification within 24 months. Commercial Plumbing Mechanical and Building Certifications are encouraged. Valid Drivers License.
EXPERIENCE TRAINING KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Good oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of the City of Jacksons Plumbing Gas and Mechanical Codes. Ability to work tactfully with plumbing gas and mechanical contractors and the public. Must be able to do presentations before the general public and in a courtroom. Capable of reading and understanding architectural plans.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
