Description

PMC: Senior Director, Events

Sportico isthe leading authority on the business of sports, covering the intersection of sports, finance, media, law, technology, real estate, sponsorship, private equity, and culture. Launched by Penske Media in 2020 as the global media and publishing leader in the business of sports, Sportico's reporters throughout the world provide breaking news in the sports business industry.

The Sportico teamis hiring an entrepreneurial Senior Director of Events to lead the strategy, growth, and execution of one of the company's most important business platforms.

The Events Senior Director will own Sportico's expanding portfolio of live experiences—from developing new conference franchises and executive summits to driving sponsorship revenue, ticket sales, programming, audience growth, and long-term business strategy. The Senior Director will have a vision to create unique experiences in what has become a crowded marketplace. Working across editorial, sales, marketing, operations, and executive leadership, the Senior Director will create industry-defining events that convene the world's most influential owners, commissioners, investors, athletes, executives, policymakers, and innovators.

The successful candidate understands that exceptional events are both world-class editorial experiences and scalable businesses. They are equally comfortable selling a presenting sponsorship, recruiting a Fortune 100 CEO to speak, building a five-year growth strategy or launching an entirely new event franchise.

Sportico values in-person collaboration and team cohesion, employees work onsite 4 days a week and 1 day remotely with a focus on maintaining a vibrant and inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Sportico's overall live events strategy, business development, and long-term growth.
  • Oversee planning and execution of a portfolio of Sportico's flagship events, including invite-only bespoke gatherings.
  • Develop innovative strategies to boost ticket sales and attendee engagement.
  • Work with marketing to maximize audience growth, event visibility, and post-event engagement.
  • Travel frequently to oversee major events and develop new business opportunities.
  • Own program development and speaker strategy for thought leadership conferences: design session formats and agendas, and identify, recruit, and manage high-profile speakers, moderators, and panelists.
  • Build and maintain relationships across venues, production vendors, and agencies.
  • Negotiate contracts and manage third-party partners to deliver events on brand and on budget.
  • Own event budgets and P&L, including forecasting, cost tracking, and managing spend to deliver events on budget while maintaining quality.

Event Portfolio

The Senior Director will oversee a growing portfolio of premium events spanning the global sports industry, including:

  • Sports investing
  • Women's sports business
  • Executive leadership summits
  • Emerging sectors shaping the future of sports business

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience leading conferences, live events, sponsorship sales, business development, executive programming, or media events.
  • Demonstrated success growing event businesses through sponsorships, ticket sales, partnerships, and new product development.
  • Proven ability to build and monetize premium B2B conferences and executive experiences.
  • Experience recruiting high-profile speakers, moderators, and industry leaders.
  • Strong understanding of the global sports industry and its executive ecosystem.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is a builder. They recognize opportunities before competitors do and understand how to transform emerging trends into must-attend industry events. They know how to create experiences that executives prioritize because of the quality of the conversations, the caliber of the attendees, and the business opportunities those events create. They combine strategic vision with operational excellence, understand the economics of premium live media businesses, and have the creativity to imagine what Sportico's next signature event should be.

A good faith estimate of the salary range is $100k – $125k upon hire + bonus. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. If you have more or less experience than specified on this job posting, please apply and list your salary expectations.
