A point-to-point electrical technician installs, maintains, and troubleshoots electrical wiring and connections between specific components, often in industrial, commercial, or custom residential applications.
Role Overview
A point-to-point electrical technician performs direct wiring between two points (e.g., a control terminal to a motor, or a circuit to a light fixture) rather than using pre-made harnesses. This role is common in low-voltage wiring, motor control circuits, and custom electrical assemblies
Key Responsibilities
  • Install and connect electrical components directly from schematic or layout diagrams, ensuring correct polarity and circuit integrity.  
  • Assemble cable and harnesses using crimps, connectors, and terminals for point-to-point connections.  
  • Follow blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams to complete wiring layouts.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults in control panels, motor circuits, or custom wiring systems 
  • Inspect and maintain electrical systems, ensuring compliance with safety and building codes.  
  • Document work completed and materials used for quality control and compliance 
  • Work with other electricians, engineers, and contractors to complete projects on time 
Skills & Qualifications
  • Technical skills: Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams.
  • Tools & equipment: Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, ammeters, voltmeters, and cable testers.
  • Safety awareness: Knowledge of electrical safety standards and OSHA/NFPA requirements.
  • Physical ability: Ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces or outdoor installations.
