Job Description

Ravenscroft is seeking a knowledgeable and safety-focused Pole Vault Coach to support the Track & Field program. This is a seasonal, part-time position providing technical instruction, supervision, and mentorship to student-athletes participating in the pole vault.

This role is ideal for a coach who is passionate about the pole vault event, committed to athlete safety, and excited to build a positive, competitive team culture within Ravenscroft's Track & Field program.

REPORTS TO: Head Track and Field Coach

What You'll Do

  • Develop and implement progressive training plans for pole vault athletes
  • Provide technical instruction on approach, plant, takeoff, swing, and bar clearance
  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, equipment standards, and facility guidelines
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team activities
  • Collaborate with the Head Coach to support overall program goals
  • Maintain vaulting equipment and coordinate with staff for repairs or replacements
  • Promote positive sportsmanship, academic responsibility, and team culture
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, families, and school staff
  • Attend all scheduled practices, meets, and required meetings

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of pole vault technique and safety standards
  • Experience coaching or competing in pole vault
  • Ability to work effectively with high school–aged students
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Must meet all district and state coaching certification requirements
  • Successful completion of background check and required trainings

Preferred: 

  • Prior coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level
  • Certification in pole vault safety or event-specific training
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Experience in strength and conditioning principles relevant to pole vault

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

This role is based on Ravenscroft's outdoor track and field facilities. Practices typically occur after school hours, with meets and competitions that may include evenings and weekends and occasional travel. The position requires the ability to stand, walk, and move throughout athletic facilities for extended periods, demonstrate or spot pole vault technique, and lift, carry, and set up vaulting equipment (poles, standards, landing pads) up to 30 pounds.
