Performs entry-level work. A police cadet is a department member who has been hired and sponsored to attend an academy or while attending an approved law enforcement academy. Must be able to gain entrance into an academy, meeting all requirements including being twenty-one by graduation. Full probationary police officer employment is conditional and contingent upon the successful completion of the academy and passing the state licensing examination. Works under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
