We're looking for a Police Lieutenant to join our University Police Department. The Police Lieutenant is a highly responsible police supervisory position in which the incumbent shall be in direct command of Police Officer 1s, Police Officer 2s, Police Officer 3s, and Police Sergeants assigned to a particular uniform police shift. The Police Lieutenant is the shift supervisor of this large department and is responsible for all training and conduct for all shift officers. Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position. Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur to assure that customer satisfaction is met at all times. The Police Lieutenant shall receive supervision and direction from a Police Captain or a supervisor of a higher rank.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of law enforcement experience.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana drivers license.

Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Supervise and lead police officers engaged in patrol operations, law enforcement, emergency response, crime prevention, and public safety services.
  • Respond to and manage complex or high-priority incidents, including serious criminal investigations and emergency response activities.
  • Oversee the departments building CCTV and access system, ensuring equipment is functioning properly and implementing corrective measures.
  • Evaluate the performance of assigned personnel through inspections, coaching, and oversight of officers, vehicles, equipment, and daily operations.
  • Review and approve reports prepared by subordinate officers and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain required POST certification and perform other related duties as assigned.
