About the Town of Leesburg and Nature of Work

This is responsible supervisory investigative law enforcement work within the Criminal Investigations Section (CIS) for the Leesburg Police Department. The CIS Sergeant supervises Detectives engaged in the prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution of felony and serious misdemeanor offenses. Duties include supervising investigative operations, managing assigned cases, training personnel, reviewing investigative work product, directing field operations, and serving as the on-scene commander for major incidents.

Work requires seasoned judgment in both routine and emergency situations and involves an element of personal danger. The Sergeant works with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Criminal Investigations Section Lieutenant.

While the selected candidate is expected to supervise the Criminal Investigations Section's detectives, applicants are advised that the Chief of Police may reassign this position to other lateral Sergeant roles within the department as operational needs dictate.
