Position Summary

Technician works under medical supervision to perform and evaluate overnight polysomnograms. This individual will function under general medical supervision of a sleep technologist and/or the medical director or designee, to safely operate sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology. The application of recording devices to the patient, cleaning/sterilization of equipment and monitoring of polysomnograms are essential duties of the technician. In addition, the technician must recognize sleep pathology when it occurs in the laboratory and respond with the appropriate inventions to ensure safety.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Sets up, calibrates and monitors recording equipment necessary for PSG, MSLT, NPT and Certified Public AccountantP/BIPAP to ensure artifact free tracings.
  • Greets and interviews patients to access current medications, recent caffeine or alcohol ingestion and current sleep patterns. Ensures that all required data is collected.
  • Prepares for patient's high-risk situations, cardiac or pulmonary problems.
  • Answers patient's questions and explains testing procedure.
  • Prepares and files paperwork (insurance) to be entered in the computer.
  • Recognizes and records clinical and physiological relevant events.
  • Titrates CPAP/BIPAP and other forms of therapy.
  • Detects and corrects equipment malfunctions.
  • Interprets polysomnogram data.
  • Prepares home sleep apnea tests (HSAT), educate patients on HSAT procedures and use, download and score data according to AASM parameters.
  • Complies with applicable laws, regulations, standards and policies regarding safety and infection control.
  • Schedules appointments for inpatients and outpatients.
  • Checks inventories and order supplies as needed.
  • Handles phone calls, answers questions for patients and physicians.
  • Assists with general maintenance and organization of the lab area.

Required Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of ASTEP or equivalent sleep technology program associated with a state licensed or nationally accredited educational facility OR minimum of six months experience as sleep trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies OR holds Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) credential or equivalent.

Salary Range

$21.33 - $31.98 / Hourly
