PeaceHealth is seeking a Polysomnographic Technologist for a Per Diem/Relief 0.00 FTE Variable position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is 31.60 - 47.40. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
Works under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O., or PhD) or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services, or patient care and education. A Polysomnographic Technologist can perform the duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technician and may provide oversight of other staff.
Essential Functions
- Collects, analyzes, and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs, physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history, and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
- Responds to study participants procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate information regarding the testing procedure.
- Documents routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
- Administers bedtime, morning, and quality assurance questionnaires to aid in patient evaluation.
- Performs equipment set-up, calibration, and patient hookup in a timely and efficient manner and according to department procedures.
- Oversees and performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
- Recognizes sleep/wake stages and events by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
- Demonstrates the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate Degree Preferred (Health Sciences).
- Experience: Required (High level of sleep disorder work experience).
- Credentials:
- Required within 1 Year: Polysomnographic Technologist.
- Required Upon Hire: Basic Life Support.

- Experience in clinical interaction with patients, co-workers, and medical staff which demonstrates the following skills:
- Required: Ability to maintain composure with multiple workloads and demands due to the patients condition and difficult testing environment.
- Required: Extremely vigilant and detail-oriented.
- Required: Ability to work alone and independently but able to maintain department protocols.
Working Conditions
- Lifting/Patient Handling: No greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
- Fine Motor Skills: To be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
- Mobility: Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
- Reaching/Bending/Squatting/Kneeling/Grasping: Frequent.
- Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs.; Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
- Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force; Occasional up to 30 lbs. force.
Environmental Conditions
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
- Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
Mental/Visual/Vision and Hearing
- Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
