    Description

    Job Description

    Performs comprehensive polysomnographic testing, analysis, and associated interventions, under the general oversight of a clinician. Maintains and cleans equipment. Maintains required documentation.

    Job Responsibility

    • Interviews patient and gathers patient history, physical information, medications, procedure requests and study protocols.
    • Identifies and assesses any signs, symptoms, special factors and co-morbid conditions.
    • Provides patient education, communicates procedure, and answers questions to ease apprehension and produce comfort and cooperation.
    • Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning.
    • Documents routine observations, including sleep stages, clinical events, procedural changes and other significant events in order to facilitate interpretation and scoring of polysomnography results.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment and education of all age groups.
    • Disinfects and performs preventative maintenance on equipment according to established protocols.
    • Complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures regarding safety and infection control issues.
    • Implements appropriate interventions, including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.

    Job Qualification

    • Associates Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
    • Current License to practice as a Polysomnograph Technologist in New York State, and Current Basic Life Support Professional Certification required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
    • 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
