General Statement of Duties

A. POOL MANAGER

Responsible for the safety and supervision of a pool facility, staff, participants, supplies and equipment. Responsible for pool instructional and special event programs and customer service. Responsible for memberships and the revenue collection process, post-season inventory, and collections of equipment. Must be able to supervise staff, the pool areas, and all persons using pool facilities. Must be able to operate a pool filtration system and implement emergency action plans as well as supervise and participate in staff in-service weekly emergency drills and staff training. Must be able to correctly complete appropriate paperwork. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. Must have current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/ First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED certifications. Administration of Emergency Oxygen and Waterpark Lifeguard certifications preferred. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor preferred. Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator certification preferred. Must be able to work other than normal hours and be available to work as scheduled based upon the needs of the department. Must successfully pass annual lifeguard water skills review test. Attend Pool Manager/Assistant Pool Manager training, gate monitor training, preseason training, and on-site pool training. Must be 18 years of age or older. Must wear Department of Recreation staff swimwear. Employee may be asked to provide assistance and/or accommodations to include participants with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)

Knowledge of:

  • Good Customer Service Principles and techniques of water safety, lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid, and pool maintenance
  • General administrative and management principles and the ability to apply these principles to daily swimming pool activities
  • Principles and practices of organization, administration, supervision, and personnel management
  • Federal and state employment related laws and regulations, specifically, EEO and ADA

Skills to:

  • Train and administer ARC CPR/PR/AED/First Aid
  • Coordinate multiple assignments; organize and prioritize tasks
  • Analyze situations carefully and adopt effective courses of action
  • Work with minimum supervision
  • Maintain confidentiality of records, actions and events
  • Speak effectively on the phone and in person

Ability to:

  • Implement any American Red Cross Skill / Rescue to the highest standard
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Take direction and provide instructions, both orally and in writing
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, employees, instructors, and the general public
  • Provide assistance and/or accommodations to include participants with disabilities

Education and Experience

Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training / First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED certifications (unexpired). Must successfully pass annual lifeguard water skills review test with a Minimum of 80% proficiency. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor preferred. Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor preferred. OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision
  • Must attend Pool Manager/Head Guard training, gate monitor training, preseason training, and on-site pool training
  • Must wear assigned Department of Recreation staff uniform
  • Unexpired certification must be maintained as part of employment
  • This position may require working a flexible schedule which may include evenings, weekends and holidays.

Working Conditions

Environmental Conditions: While performing the duties of this job the employee is subjected to outdoor weather conditions with little to no temperature control, is routinely exposed to the sun, and may be exposed to extreme heat, cold, wind, and rain. The employee works on uneven and/or slippery surfaces and is periodically exposed to hazardous conditions/situations and substances.

Physical Conditions: Duties require maintaining physical conditions necessary for swimming for prolonged periods of time, lifting up to 100lbs, and repairing minor fence cuts. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time, occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch, and to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
