South Carolina Retirement Yes State Insurance Programs Yes Annual Leave Yes Sick Leave Yes Position Description Advertised Job Summary The University of South Carolina invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct health services research focused on cancer survivorship and disparities using large, linked administrative, clinical, and geospatial datasets. The fellow will work with a multidisciplinary research team under the supervision of Dr. Swann Arp Adams (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Nathaniel Bell (Co-PI). This NIH-funded project integrates administrative, clinical, and spatial data to explore multi-level contributors to colon and lung cancer survival disparities. With administration approval, remote or hybrid work arrangements are available to qualified candidates. This fellowship is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on performance and funding. The annual salary will follow NIH postdoctoral stipend guidelines and includes benefits (health and retirement). Key Responsibilities of the position: Demonstrated research specialization in public health, health services research, epidemiology, nursing science, or a closely related field. Proven experience working with large or complex datasets, including proficiency in statistical software such as SAS, R, or Stata. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to diverse audiences. Ability to manage, link, and analyze large population health and administrative datasets. Conduct advanced statistical analyses, including geospatial analyses using GIS tools. Ensure data quality, integrity, and secure data management practices in accordance with institutional and regulatory standards. Prepare manuscripts, presentations, and reports, and contribute to grant writing and research proposals. Mentor graduate assistants and provide support for project coordination and execution. Participate in weekly virtual research meetings and attend periodic on-site sessions as required. Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications Doctoral degree in epidemiology, health promotion, health services, nursing, or other related discipline. Prior experience in geospatial information systems analysis. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Prior experience in complex data management and big data statistical analysis. Job Duties Job Duty Leads data collection, analysis, and dissemination activities in coordination with the Principal Investigator (PI). Serves as the primary liaison with data partners and community organizations. Manages data receipt, performs quality checks, conducts statistical analyses, and prepares results for publication. Drafts manuscripts and grant proposals in collaboration with the PI and supports community engagement initiatives.
