Project Description The Department of Mathematics at the University of Houston invites applications for a postdoctoral position. This is an appointment for an initial term of 12 months, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year, contingent upon performance, mutual agreement, and funding availability. The tentative start date is August 1, 2026, though an earlier start date is possible.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will join Dr. Ping Zhongs research group at the University of Houston. The candidate is expected to conduct independent and collaborative research, contribute to the department, college, and university, and actively engage in the academic community. Responsibilities include giving lectures in departmental seminars, presenting research findings at national and international conferences, and teaching courses assigned by the department. The candidate will have opportunities to mentor undergraduate and graduate students involved in the project.

Required and Preferred Qualifications We seek a candidate with a Ph.D. in mathematics or a closely related field, with experiences in one or more of the following areas: free probability, random matrix theory, operator algebras, operator theory, noncommutative analysis and geometry, or quantum information theory.

MQ: Requires singular knowledge of a specialized advanced professional discipline or the highest level of general business knowledge, normally acquired through attainment of a directly job-related terminal degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. No experience is required.
