Position Summary: 

The Denzin lab in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, VCU School of Medicine, has anopening for a Post-Doctoral Fellow to study novel regulators of the MHC classII antigen processing and presentation pathway. To study these, we utilize invivo mouse genetics, confocal microscopy, viral-vector based manipulation ofgenes, cell cultures and state-of-the-art biochemical and molecular approaches.We offer an intellectual, collaborative, and multidisciplinary research environmentto support career goals and provide access to modern facilities. Candidateswith background knowledge and hands-on experience in immunology, biochemistry,molecular biology, or other relevant fields. Applicants with strongimmunological and cell biological knowledge and skills are particularlywelcome.

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Designand perform experiments. Analyze, interpret and discuss experimental data withPI and other members of the lab
  • Generate figures and write first drafts of manuscripts 
  • Help train and mentorjunior scientists in the lab

Minimum Hiring Standards: 

  • Strongresearch background in immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, and/or mousemodels
  • Evidenceof successful completion of a research project (publications)
  • Abilityto work independently; interpret, present, and discuss experimental data
  • Excellentcommunications skills
  • Thiswill be a minimum one-year appointment, contingent upon satisfactory annualreviews
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at VCU

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • PhDor MD/PhD (or equivalent) in biological sciences
  • Preferredexperience in immunology

 

This is a restricted position with no set end date. Continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience starting at $62,232
