Purpose of Position Postdoctoral fellow at University of North Dakota, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, in the Geriatrics Department Laboratory.
The primary focus of the laboratory is to determine the key regulators of stress and resiliency in humans, focused on the T cell stress response. On-going projects include preclinical and clinical studies utilizing in vivo and in vitro models which study how normal aging, longevity and long Covid impact the heat shock axis. One key goal is to discover the efficacy of plant medicinal such as resveratrol and curcumin in reconstituting the age-dependent decline in HSF1 activation.
Successful candidates work closely with the primary investigator (Dr. Jurivich) and faculty collaborators (Drs. Brown-Borg and Mathur) as well as with trainees from UND. They will work independently and collaboratively with all the members of the research team, prepare peer-reviewed publications, grants, and conference presentations.
Duties & Responsibilities Conduct basic research on the molecular biology of the aging stress response using preclinical models of aging and human immunocytes.
Investigate T cell resiliency with age using transcriptome and proteome profiles to further evaluate biological age.
Test anti-aging compounds to reconstitute the age-dependent decline in the aging stress response.
Prepare and publish manuscripts, abstracts, and reports.
Complete and maintain training for laboratory safety and human/animal research.
Engage in advanced education in gerontology and collaborate on the creation of a biology of aging online course.
Minimum Requirements Ph.D. in Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or any of the related fields in Biological Sciences.
