    Position Overview and Responsibilities
    This Postbaccalaureate Research Scholar opportunity in the Dawson Lab at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) is designed as an anticipated two-year training experience for students seeking hands-on experience to strengthen their preparation for graduate school in STEM fields. Scholars will receive close mentorship, professional development, and opportunities to engage in the scientific community through:

    • Individualized guidance from faculty mentors through daily interactions and weekly meetings
    • Participation in graduate-level workshops and seminars focused on skill building and career development
    • Additional mentoring from senior graduate students and postdoctoral scientists on navigating graduate school and scientific careers
    • Opportunities to present research at local and national meetings, as well as contribute to peer-reviewed publications

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Preparing media and maintaining laboratory stocks of solutions and reagents for the lab
    • Conducting experiments under the guidance of a senior scientist
    • Using molecular genetics techniques, live cell imaging, and conducting bio-informatic analysis
    • Working on projects using yeast to explore chromosome segregation during meiosis and mitosis
    • Supporting projects using mammalian cells to study chromosome segregation mechanisms
    • Gaining hands-on experience in experimental design, lab techniques, and data analysis
    • Inventorying lab supplies and ordering for the lab

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Recent (within the last 3 years) BA/BS degree in a STEM field, such as the biological sciences, engineering, chemistry, physics, or computer science, and a desire to gain research experience in preparation for applications to graduate or professional schools in STEM related areas.

      Recent (within the last 6 months) master’s degree in a STEM field, such as the biological sciences, engineering, chemistry, physics, or computer science, and a desire to gain research experience in preparation for applications to graduate or professional schools in STEM related areas.
    • Commitment to interactive, collaborative, team science
    • Eagerness to learn new techniques and the ability to work independently once trained
    • Must be organized, willing to learn and take direction, keep meticulous records, and meet deadlines

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous computational or wet lab experience is desirable but not required

    Work Hours
    Typically, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00PM.
