The Postdoctoral Scholar will lead innovative research projects focused on the intersection of advanced computational methods development, multi-omics modeling, and complex inflammatory disease biology with special emphasis on sepsis endotyping, as well as other research areas and disease applications in the Brubaker Lab. The position offers opportunity for advanced training in interdisciplinary science, translational research, and research computing. The scholar will design and execute methods for patient stratification using multi-modal immunophenotyping and clinical data toward the goal of transforming the diagnosis and management of sepsis and other acute critical care illnesses.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Technology and Methodology Development: Independently develop and optimize novel coonalmputati and analytical methods, including unsupervised learning, classifier development and testing, and development of advanced multi-modal data integration and analysis techniques. (50%).
Data Integration and Analysis: Conduct rigorous analysis of multimodal data across the scholar's primary project, support other funded projects in the lab, and develop new directions of interest to the Scholar's career development. (20%)
Collaboration and Mentorship: Collaborate within an interdisciplinary research environment, provide mentorship to junior lab personnel, and actively participate in team-driven research projects (20%).
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lab Organization and Other Duties: Assist in the general maintenance of the laboratory, development of grant proposals and manuscripts, and organization as needed (10%).
CONTACTS
Department: Daily interaction with the principal investigator and lab members to discuss ongoing projects and results.
University: Regular contact with collaborators across multiple departments and centers within the university. Occasional communication with administrative support and research offices.
External: Occasional interactions with external collaborators, vendors, institutions, and funding agencies.
Students: Regular interactions and mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide mentorship and guidance to graduate students, research assistants, and other junior lab personnel.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials. Personal protective equipment (gloves, masks, eye protection) will be provided. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required depending on project needs.
In compliance with the City of Cleveland's Pay Transparency Ordinance (effective October 27, 2025), the annual starting base salary range for this position is $55,000 - $62,652. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer. Education: PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, or a related discipline.
Experience: Demonstrated experience with developing advanced computational workflows to handle heterogeneous biological datasets.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Experience developing or utilizing advanced computational modeling techniques on heterogeneous biological datasets.
Proficiency in single-cell RNA sequencing, high-dimensional data analysis, bioinformatics tools, and programming languages (R, Python).
Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute, and troubleshoot complex workflows.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret and integrate complex datasets.
Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks effectively.
Strong record of peer-reviewed scientific publications.
