Posting Summary

The Rutgers-Newark School of Criminal Justice is pleased to announce one Postdoctoral Associate position serving the Newark Public Safety Collaborative (NPSC). We are seeking an Associate specializing in data analysis and quantitative research methods, with a focus on geospatial analysis. The Calendar Year (CY) Associate position will be awarded for a one-year period beginning in September or October 2026, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. This full-time position offers a salary of $65,000 per year, along with health benefits (a description of available plans can be found at https://uhr.rutgers.edu/benefits/medical-plans). Additional support is available for conference travel and professional development. The selected candidate will also be eligible for concurrent part-time teaching appointments at the Rutgers School of Criminal Justice.

The Postdoctoral Associate must be committed to using research as a tool to advance equity. The Associate will support research and evaluation efforts for the Newark Public Safety Collaborative (NPSC) and its projects throughout the City of Newark, including the dissemination of data, research findings, and analytics aligned with NPSC's mission to democratize access to data and empower community-led, co-produced responses to public safety challenges.

This position contributes to advancing an innovative, data-informed model of public safety that strengthens community well-being while reducing inequities. Experience with place-based research, causal inference, and program evaluation involving community-based organizations, law enforcement, government agencies, and other stakeholders is highly desirable, as is experience designing, managing, and analyzing large administrative datasets.

The Postdoctoral Associate will work on projects involving longitudinal crime data and other administrative data sources. Responsibilities include conducting quantitative analyses, managing and integrating complex datasets, preparing data documentation, and communicating findings to technical and non-technical audiences. Strong quantitative research skills and demonstrated experience working with various large datasets are preferred. The Postdoctoral Associate will contribute to advanced statistical analyses, geospatial analysis, and data visualization, as well as to the development and dissemination of findings from NPSC-led public safety initiatives (see newarkcollaborative.org). Other responsibilities also include preparing policy briefs, technical reports, and journal manuscripts, as well as presenting findings at academic and practitioner conferences, community meetings, and other public-facing convenings.

The Postdoctoral Associate may manage and archive research data, develop data visualizations, conduct literature reviews, and draft academic manuscripts and public-facing reports that communicate key findings from NPSC's impact evaluations and related research to community partners, policymakers, practitioners, and the broader public.
