Description
The Coruzzi Lab is currently accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position at NYUs Center for Genomics and Systems Biology.
Plant Systems Biology @ The Coruzzi lab: https://coruzzilab.bio.nyu.edu
The Coruzzi lab at NYUs Center for Genomics & Systems Biology has an open position for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Postdoctoral Associate. This position is for a post-PhD trainee preparing for a research scientist career path with a future in Academe or Biotech. The position will provide a transition to career independence through the development of professional skills; supervision by senior scientist incorporating individual development plan in support of training goals and those of faculty mentor; and publication of research findings/scholarship during postdoc appointment period.
Overview: A major goal of systems biology is to model gene regulatory networks to accurately predict causal interactions between transcription factors (TF) and target genes. Our lab focus is on predictively modeling and validating gene regulatory networks involved in nitrogen (N) use in plants including the model Arabidopsis and crops, including maize and rice. We use time-series transcriptome N-response data and machine learning to learn causal networks using machine learning approaches. For high through put validation, we are using a plant cell-based assay called TARGET scaled up to cover TFs spanning all TF families in Arabidopsis, maize and rice. We aim to identify the master transcription factors in such networks that control NUE/WUE in plants, with a focus on ones conserved across genotypes within species and also across species. We follow-up with validation in planta including green house and field studies.
Location: NYUs Center for Genomics and Systems Biology is located at 12 Waverly Place, New York, NY 10003, in the historic and vibrant Greenwich Village in downtown Manhattan. NYU is one of the worlds leading research universities and its Center for Genomics and Systems Biology is housed in a new, state-of-the-art facility with 27 faculty members who study Genomics and Systems Biology across all kingdoms of life. About New York University
NYU''s The Center for Genomics and Systems Biology, housed in a cutting-edge 62,000 square foot hub of science, is at the very heart of NYUs Washington Square campus. Beyond its historic Greenwich Village facade are open and interconnected state-of-the-art loft laboratories where scientists including professors, researchers, and students interact to leverage the extraordinary potential of genomics and systems biology in research and education The Centers research programs embrace the study of genomics and systems biology as the next frontier in a pioneering era of biological sciences. This involves the combined skills of genomic, computational, and evolutionary biologists who work and study in the Center. Faculty also collaborate with researchers in the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences departments of Physics and Chemistry, NYU School of Medicine, NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering, NYU College of Global Public Health, NYU Center for Data Science, and NYU Center for Urban Science and Progress as well as with researchers from other major New York institutions and around the world. The intellectual synergisms brought about by thes...e internal and external collaborations, enable us to develop unique approaches to genomics and systems biology. Working with organisms from all the major branches of the tree of life, researchers at the Center address how genomes encode regulatory genetic networks, respond to changes in the environment or during development, how genes evolve, and how this generates diversity within and across species. These principles are being applied to global questions in human health, food sustainability, bio-energy, and the environment.
