The malaria research lab of Dr. Ashley Vaughan ( www.seattlechildrens.org/research/centers-programs/global-infectious-disease-research/research-areas-and-labs/vaughan-lab/ ) at the Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR) at Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scientist to study malaria parasites. This NIH-funded project aims identify and test novel antigens for transmission-blocking vaccines to prevent the spread of the parasite from infected hosts to mosquito vectors. The work will be carried out in the human-infective parasite _Plasmodium falciparum_ using _in vitro_ and _in vivo_ infection models covering the entire parasite life cycle. This position offers an extraordinary opportunity to work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment. The project is a collaboration between Dr. Vaughan and Dr. Kristian Swearingen ( www.isbscience.org/bio/kristian-swearingen-phd/ ) of the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB), who will co-mentor the successful applicant. The primary responsibility of the position will be studies into the molecular parasitology of _Plasmodium_ , including culturing parasites, isolating parasite life cycle stages for downstream proteomics, and performing standard membrane feeding assays to assess transmission to mosquitoes. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in working with _Plasmodium_ as a parasite of global health importance, basic parasite biology, and the translation of novel findings into approaches for intervention. Job responsibilities will include: + Producing _Plasmodium falciparum_ parasites at multiple stages, including blood stages and mosquito stages + Performing standard membrane feeding assays + Performing data analysis and presenting research at internal meetings, scientific conferences, and in peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts Along with a curriculum vitae, candidates must provide a cover letter detailing the following: + Interest in working on the malaria parasite + What you hope to achieve during your tenure in this position + Scientific career ambitions and research goals + Any other important information not covered by your CV (e.g., gaps in research or education due to family responsibilities or extenuating circumstances). **Required Education and Experience** Doctorate degree (PhD/DVM/MD) in specialty area from an accredited university training program. Experience using basic research techniques of specialty area. **Required Credentials** N/A. **Preferred** + Experience in cell biology, molecular biology, or molecular genetics laboratory technique (e.g. cell culture, PCR, microscopy) + Willingness to work with a diverse team of scientists, including postdocs, students, and technicians. + The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively + Experience working with _Plasmodium_ parasites **Compensation Range** $80,172 per year **Salary Information** This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year).
