The Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy at the University of Missouri

Job Description

The Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy at the University of Missouri invites applications for two Postdoctoral Fellowships to begin Fall 2026, one in History and one in Political Science.

For the History Fellowship, we seek candidates who work on United States politics from 1776 to 1876, British politics from 1688, and/or the Atlantic alliance. We prefer candidates who can teach the following core classes in the BA in Constitutional Democracy: Revolutionary Transformation of Early America and/or Young Republic.

For the Political Science Fellowship, we seek candidates who work on public law and American constitutionalism broadly understood. Specific research areas might include American political development (APD), political/legal institutions, rights and liberties, political parties, separation of powers, and political thought and culture. We also welcome applicants whose research involves comparative work. We prefer candidates who can teach the following core classes in the BA in Constitutional Democracy: Intellectual World of the American Founders and/or Constitutional Debates.

For both Fellowships, a willingness to engage in the programming and intellectual life of the Kinder Institute is required.

Postdoctoral Fellows will have an annual teaching load of 2-1 or 1-2. The Fellowships are full-time positions that come with a competitive salary, university benefits, and dedicated funds for conference travel, research, and other professional expenses. Funds are also available to help offset moving costs. The Fellowships are renewable for up to three years.
