Position Qualification

Position Summary

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will support and lead interdisciplinary research activities within the Nordgren Laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics, with a focus on environmental exposures, nutrition, inflammation, and respiratory health across the lifespan. Working closely with Dr. Tara Nordgren and collaborating investigators across the University of Nebraska Medical Center and external institutions, the postdoctoral scholar will conduct epidemiologic and translational research examining the interactions between agricultural exposures, nutritional factors, and biomarkers of respiratory and systemic health. Responsibilities include analyzing complex datasets; preparing scientific manuscripts, presentations, and reports; contributing to the development of competitive grant applications; and advancing collaborative research programs that integrate population-based and mechanistic approaches to environmental health.

Specific duties include completion of data analysis, dissemination, and publication activities for several ongoing, actively projects that supported by funding from CDC-NIOSH (CS-CASH), the American Lung Association, and NIH-NHLBI. The individual will lead and contribute to multiple peer-reviewed publications, including studies examining environmental dust exposures and chronic lung disease in the NHANES dataset, as well as additional work investigating the associations between omega-3 fatty acid-derived specialized pro-resolving mediators and respiratory outcomes among pregnant women with asthma. The position will also support the preparation and submission of extramural funding applications, including proposals focused on CC16, indoor air pollution, nutrition, and asthma symptoms during pregnancy; expansion of current CS-CASH-funded research into career development (K-level) funding opportunities; and the development of innovative biomarker-focused studies of developmental lung health in collaboration internal and external investigators, with the goal of securing NIH R-level funding. Additional responsibilities include pursuing independent and collaborative funding opportunities through federal agencies, foundations, and professional organizations, and providing scientific expertise to support ongoing projects and strategic research initiatives within the Nordgren Laboratory. This position is designed to foster the transition to research independence and support the development of a competitive, externally funded academic research program.
