Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Clinical Psychology, Serious Mental Illness - Psychosis Specialty Clinic

A 1-3 year postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology is available within the Louis A. Faillace Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UTHealth Houston. This position primarily focuses on the clinical care of adolescents and adults (ages 12 and older) with schizophrenia spectrum disorders and mood disorders with psychotic features through the UTHealth Psychosis Specialty Clinic. In addition, through involvement with the Houston Psychosis Research Center, the postdoctoral fellow will have opportunities to initiate and/or participate in clinical and translational research examining schizophrenia spectrum and related disorders using a variety of technologies, assessment tools, and research methodologies. The fellowship includes supervision and training experiences designed to meet requirements for licensure as a psychologist in the state of Texas, as well as other states requiring postdoctoral training. Following completion of the fellowship, fellows are expected to be well-positioned to transition into faculty roles as clinical psychologists, with opportunities to pursue primarily clinical careers, independent research programs, or combined clinical-research career paths.

Experience working with individuals with psychosis, first-episode psychosis, or clinical high risk for psychosis is highly desirable, as is supervised experience providing Cognitive Behavior Therapy and/or other psychosocial interventions for schizophrenia spectrum disorders, along with strong generalist training in evidence-based practices. However, these experiences are not required. We also welcome candidates who demonstrate a strong interest in working with this population. Experience or interest in becoming a specialist in caring for adolescents and adults with psychosis is preferred.

Position Summary:

A biomedical postdoc position provides an opportunity for early-career researchers to gain valuable experience, develop independent research skills, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their field of expertise.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Minimum Education:

Doctoral/Terminal Degree. Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA-accredited Clinical, Counseling, School, or Combined Psychology program. Completion or expected completion of an APA-accredited psychology pre-doctoral internship prior to start date.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
