Cedars-Sinai is an international leader in biomedical research, we translate discoveries into successful treatments with global impact.

About the Team

The Center for Advanced Gerotherapeutics co-directed by Dr. James Kirkland, MD, PhD and Dr. Tamar Tchkonia, PhD, is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to provide research expertise in fundamental aging. Overall, this project is significant in the field of geroscience, as it seeks to uncover new insights into aging mechanisms and develop innovative interventions that could improve the quality of life and longevity.

About the Role

Aging mechanisms are believed to be the root causes of various aging-related phenotypes, disorders and diseases. One of the key processes under investigation is cellular senescence, where cells lose their ability to divide and function properly. The Postdoctoral Scientist will assist in seeking to define characteristics of different subtypes of senescent cells (SCs) and understand their roles in aging and disease.

Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientists, the Postdoctoral Scientist will perform routine and complex procedures throughout training period. The incumbent may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. The team member analyzes and interprets data, may assist in preparation of grant proposals, and participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author. This position is not responsible for generating grant funds.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs and performs experiments.
  • Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation, and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator.
  • Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
  • May observe MD-patient or MD-human research subject interactions as it pertains directly to research being performed.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctorate degree (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization.

Experience:

  • Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization.
  • Acquires complete technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.

Work Location:

  • This is a fully on-site position and the research lab is located in the Pacific Design Center (PDC) building in West Hollywood, California.
