Postpartum Doula

Independent Contractor | Austin, TX (Private Residences)

Postpartum doula engagements in the Austin market commonly range from $35–$60+ per hour, depending on experience, availability, schedule structure, and scope of care. Final compensation is negotiated directly between the doula and the family.

About Matron of Familyhood

Matron of Familyhood is a boutique placement agency built around continuity of care within private homes. Many of the families we support connect with us during pregnancy and continue through postpartum recovery and, in some cases, into longer-term household support as their needs evolve.

We focus on thoughtful introductions, professional standards, discretion, and long-term relational alignment. Our network is intentionally curated to preserve quality, clarity, and mutual fit.

Matron of Familyhood does not employ doulas. We facilitate introductions between families and independent postpartum professionals seeking direct service arrangements.

Our Philosophy of Postpartum Care

We believe the postpartum period deserves steady, knowledgeable, and emotionally attuned support.

The families in our network value:

  • Calm, grounded presence during early recovery • Evidence-informed feeding and sleep guidance • Respect for parental autonomy and household rhythms • Clear communication and professional boundaries • Discretion within private homes

We prioritize doulas who approach postpartum care as a serious and sustainable professional practice.

Screening & Introduction Process

To preserve alignment and professionalism, our process may include:

  • Application review • Initial phone conversation • Structured interview • Professional reference verification • Background screening conducted with candidate consent and in accordance with applicable law • Conversations regarding availability, scope of care, and rate expectations • Interviews directly with families (virtual or in-home, based on family preference)

Final engagement decisions are made solely by the family.

Who This Opportunity Tends to Fit

This opportunity is generally well suited for postpartum doulas who:

  • Have independently supported multiple postpartum families • Bring steady, emotionally regulated energy into recovery environments • Communicate clearly and confidently with new parents • Maintain strong professional boundaries • Value discretion and long-term relational alignment • Prefer curated introductions over high-volume referral platforms

Professional Qualifications

To be considered for our network, candidates should have:

  • Formal postpartum doula training (DONA, CAPPA, ProDoula, or equivalent) • A minimum of 2 years of paid postpartum experience supporting multiple client families • Current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certification • Strong, verifiable professional references • The ability to operate independently as a self-directed professional

We value demonstrated experience and professional maturity in addition to certification.

Work Authorization

Independent professionals must be legally permitted to provide services within the United States.

Work Structure

Postpartum doulas introduced through Matron of Familyhood operate as independent professionals.

They:

  • Maintain control over their schedules, scope of services, and professional practices • Share preferred rate ranges and availability during the vetting process • Enter into service agreements directly with families under mutually agreed terms

Families pay Matron of Familyhood a separate placement fee for screening and introductions. Compensation for doula services is negotiated and paid directly between the doula and the family.

Independent professionals are responsible for their own tax reporting, insurance coverage, and business compliance.

Nothing in this listing creates an employment relationship between Matron of Familyhood and independent professionals.

Trial Engagements

In some cases, families and doulas may begin with a short-term engagement before entering into a longer postpartum agreement.

All service terms are negotiated directly between the doula and the family. We do not supervise services but remain available to facilitate communication if requested.

Ongoing Support

While we are not the employer or supervising entity, we remain available to support communication after introduction if questions arise. Our goal is to encourage stable, professional working relationships built on clarity and mutual respect.

Next Step

Submitting an application does not guarantee placement. We reach out directly when a candidate's background aligns with a current or upcoming family need.

Matron of Familyhood considers all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other status protected under applicable law.
