About the Role
TECO-Westinghouse is seeking a highly experienced Power Electronics Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership and drive innovation in advanced power conversion systems. This is a high-impact role for a senior engineering professional with deep expertise in medium-voltage, high-power, and grid-connected power electronics.
The ideal candidate will lead complex engineering programs from concept through production while driving innovation in converter technologies, motor drives, and grid-tied power systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the architecture, design, and technical direction of advanced power electronic systems including:
    • Power converters
    • Inverters
    • Medium-voltage motor drives
    • Grid-connected power conversion solutions
  • Drive innovation in converter topologies to optimize performance, efficiency, reliability, and cost
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for grid-tied power converter design and utility grid interaction
  • Define technical requirements and lead design reviews, risk assessments, and mitigation activities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with controls, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams
  • Mentor engineering teams and establish best practices, design methodologies, and technical standards
  • Support product qualification, manufacturing, and field issue resolution
  • Contribute to technology roadmaps and advanced R&D initiatives

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Strong expertise in power electronics design and converter topologies
  • Hands-on experience designing and developing medium-voltage and high-power electronic systems
  • Experience with grid-connected power converters including:
    • Grid synchronization
    • PLLs (Phase-Locked Loops)
    • Current and voltage control
    • Power factor control
    • Grid code compliance
  • Experience designing low- and high-frequency transformers for medium-voltage applications
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Magnetic materials
    • Insulation coordination
    • Thermal performance
    • Electromagnetic behavior
  • Experience developing control algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink
  • Knowledge of PWM techniques, soft/hard switching, and system stability analysis
  • Familiarity with high-voltage insulation systems and applicable IEC, IEEE, and UL standards
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical programs and make sound engineering tradeoff decisions
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Experience with:
    • EMI/EMC design
    • Thermal management
    • Reliability engineering
    • Manufacturing support and product qualification
  • Knowledge of regional and international grid standards and compliance requirements

Work Environment
This position involves a combination of office, laboratory, and industrial environments. Candidates should be comfortable working around electrical and mechanical systems, testing equipment, and prototype hardware.
