Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Power Module Design Engineer with a strong background in the development of high-reliability power electronics for space applications. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience designing, testing, and delivering space-qualified power modules that have achieved Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 9. This role requires hands-on expertise across the full engineering lifecycle, from requirements capture through design, build, and verification at test, as well as experience working with customers, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and verification of space-qualified power modules and units, including but not limited to:
    • DC/DC converters
    • Power distribution units (PDUs)
    • Point-of-load regulators
    • Battery management and charging circuits
    • Power conditioning and protection circuits
    • Low noise, analog signal conditioning circuits
  • Execute the full engineering lifecycle:
    • Requirements analysis and flow-down
    • Concept design and trade studies
    • Component selection, Schematic capture, and layout instruction preparation
    • Electrical analysis (load, transient, thermal, EMI/EMC, derating)
    • Hardware release, build support, and verification at test
  • Prepare for and present at internal and external design reviews, ensuring technical readiness and compliance with requirements.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing teams to support component selection, procurement, build, and assembly readiness.
  • Engage directly with customers during design reviews, requirement clarifications, and technical discussions.
  • Generate and maintain engineering documentation, analysis reports, and verification results.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, tools, and best practices.
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience in power electronics design for space or aerospace systems.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering TRL-9 power modules for flight applications.
  • Strong knowledge of DC/DC converter topologies, regulation techniques, EMI/EMC filters, and protection circuits.
  • Proficiency with EDA tools for schematic capture and layout instruction development.
  • Expertise in power electronics analysis (thermal, transient, EMI/EMC, derating).
  • Experience preparing and executing customer-facing design reviews.
  • Ability to support supply chain, manufacturing, and test organizations in design release.
  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
Desired Skills & Experience

  • Familiarity with radiation effects on power electronics and mitigation techniques.
  • Knowledge of space-grade standards (e.g., MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461, IPC-2221, NASA/ECSS requirements).
  • Experience with fault tolerance, redundancy, and high-reliability design practices.
  • Hands-on experience with lab testing of power hardware (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, thermal chambers, etc.)
Additional Information

  • Full-time employment
  • Salary range $100k - $140k
  • Equity participation through incentive stock options
  • Health/medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO benefits
About Jemba9

Jemba9 is accelerating what’s next in Space by partnering with non-space companies that have advanced, attractive technologies and “Spacifying” them by adapting the designs to be space-worthy, creating product assurance artifacts and controlling production and test.  In parallel, we are building tools to improve efficiency throughout the product development and production lifecycle.  We are looking for engineers that want to develop spacecraft hardware and also contribute to innovative engineering tools development (and as a startup, jump in and help wherever necessary to make the company successful!).
