Job Summary

We are seeking a mission-focused, highly resilient Senior Power Plant Technician to lead the operation, maintenance, and synchronization of tactical power generation and microgrid distribution systems in an austere contingency environment. Job Description & Core Responsibilities
  • Tactical Plant Operations: Maintain, troubleshoot, synchronize, and ensure continuous 24/7/365 operation of an expeditionary prime power generation facility and tactical microgrid network with a cumulative generation capacity typically exceeding 1 Megawatt (MW).
  • Microgrid Maintenance: Monitor and service Advanced Medium Mobile Power Sources ( AMMPS), Tactical Quiet Generators ( TQGs), prime power units, and associated digital control systems, load-balancing arrays, and automated switchgear.
  • Diagnostics & Repairs: Diagnose, isolate, and repair electrical, mechanical, and electronic malfunctions on energized and de-energized systems. Utilize advanced electrical testing apparatus including voltmeters, ammeters, phase-rotation meters, insulation testers (Meggers), and digital diagnostic tools.
  • Expeditionary Distribution: Install, troubleshoot, and repair secondary power distribution equipment, including Overhead/Underground power distribution lines, Tactical Quiet Generator Distribution Panels (TQGDP), Power Distribution Illuminating Systems Electrical (PDISE), and automatic transfer switches (ATS).
  • Tactical Fuel Systems: Oversee the safe containment, transferring, filtering, and distribution of military-grade fuels ( JP-8, JP-5, and Diesel/F-76) feeding the power plant, ensuring absolute zero-downtime due to fuel contamination or starvation.
  • Contingency Readiness: Lead "Black Start " power restoration protocols immediately following unscheduled grid failures or tactical disruptions, minimizing downtime for mission-critical command, control, and medical facilities.
  • Military Integration: Communicate effectively via tactical radios and standard channels with the Mayor's Cell, military command elements, and Base Operations Support (BOS) teams regarding power outages, scheduled maintenance windows, and grid casualties.
  • Documentation & Supply Chain: Complete all maintenance tracking logs using standard army/contract maintenance systems (e.g., Maximo). Identify, order, and track high-priority Prescribed Load List ( PLL) repair parts to maintain plant operational readiness.

Basic Job Requirements
  • Education & Experience: High school diploma / GED equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and six (6) to nine (9) years of direct power generation experience in a commercial utility or military environment.
  • Military Training Equivalency: Completion of a formal U.S. Military Power Generation Equipment Repairer course is highly preferred (e.g., Army MOS 91D / 12P, Air Force AFSC 3E0X2, Navy CE, or Marine Corps MOS 1142).
  • Technical & Diagnostic Certifications:
    • Must possess an active EPA Section 608 Universal Technician Certification for environmental compliance during HVAC/Generator servicing.
    • Must hold a valid OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification or international equivalent.
  • Equipment Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise operating and maintaining Caterpillar, Cummins, and/or SDMO prime power units alongside standard DoD AMMPS and TQG systems ranging from 5kW to 1MW+.

Specialized Technical & Environmental Requirements
  • Advanced Diagnostic Software: Proven, hands-on proficiency utilizing heavy equipment diagnostic applications, specifically Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) and Cummins INSITE, to execute ECM flashing, parameter configuration, fault code clearing, and live data logging.
  • Precision Testing Tools: Expert proficiency with professional-grade diagnostic hardware including Fluke digital multimeters (Fluke 87V or equivalent), clamp meters, insulation resistance testers (Megger), and load-bank testing units.
  • Hazardous Materials & Spill Response: Must possess an active 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification (with current 8-Hour annual refreshers). This is mandatory for safely executing emergency spill containment, mitigation, and the handling/disposal of fuel-contaminated soils and hazardous waste adjacent to tactical fuel bladders, storage tanks, and containment berms.
  • Electrical Safety Compliance: Certified in NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, demonstrating strict compliance with Arc Flash boundaries, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) category selection, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) safety protocols.
  • Renewable Integration: Experience maintaining hybrid expeditionary power systems, including tactical solar arrays and battery energy storage systems (BESS) integrated into microgrids.

Other Contract & Contingency Requirements
  • Citizenship & Security: Must be a U.S. Citizen possessing an active or easily clearable DoW Tier One, Low Risk, Public Trust background check clearance or higher.
  • Deployment Medical Clearance: Must successfully clear all U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) / CENTCOM Mod 17 medical, dental, and psychological screenings. Candidates must be physically fit to deploy to remote locations devoid of advanced medical facilities.
  • Physical Fitness & Environmental Resilience: Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. unassisted, climbing ladders, and working long, physically demanding shifts in extreme austere conditions including ambient desert/tropical heat exceeding 120 F (50 C), high humidity, dust storms, and heavy rain.
  • Language Proficiency: Mastery of the English language (read, write, speak) at an advanced operational level is mandatory to interpret complex military Technical Manuals (TMs), draft Incident Reports, and direct junior multinational personnel during emergency grid failures.
  • Weapons/Base Security Compliance: Must strictly abide by all base-specific General Orders, Status of Forces Agreements (SOFA), and security directives implemented by the base commander.
