The length of the program is dependent on prior experience, the trainee's aptitude, and the department's needs.Platte River has one opening to hire and is seeking an adaptable and proactive individual with a learner mindset. Effective communication and relationship-building skills are also crucial in order to foster collaboration and trust with others.This job posting closes onAugust 22at 5:00 pm.Work environment and scheduleTrainees work onsite and are regularly scheduled to work 40 hours per week; they are not regularly scheduled to work nights, weekends, and holidays.Fully qualified power system operators work independently and are assigned rotating 12-hour shifts that include nights, weekends, and holidays.Work performed is primarily sedentary, with minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. There are occasional required visits to Rawhide Energy Station and the individual in this role must maintain driving eligibility.Essential duties and responsibilitiesModels the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organizationFollows the initial training portion of the power system operator training program as outlined by the senior manager of power marketsGains knowledge on applicable FERC Orders, NERC Reliability Standards, WECC Reliability Standards, regional procedures/criteria, and Platte River specific plans, procedures and contractsSuccessfully passes periodic trainee evaluations – both from peers as well as from managementSuccessfully demonstrates competency of the on-the-job training (OJT) guides for all bulk electric system organization specific reliability-related tasks by completing all task qualification sheetsTakes direction from and assist the on-shift power system operator – generation, senior power schedulers (preschedule), and other power market & generation dispatch employees during on-the-job trainingOther functionsWorks in a 24-hour, 7-day a week office environment, on 12-hour rotating shifts and work overtime as neededPerforms other duties as assignedKnowledge, skills, and abilitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skills.Must be able to work effective independently and in a team environment.Ability to identify colors and various alarms.Strong math aptitude.Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.Read and understand complex instructions and procedures.Ability to maintain composure during stressful situations.Working knowledge of power marketing and generation scheduling is preferred.Required qualificationsHold a high school diploma or equivalent resulting in demonstrated ability to perform job duties (bachelor's degree in business, energy, or related field is preferred).Valid driver license and ability to maintain driving eligibility according to company policy.Over one year of work experience in the electrical utility industry.Must be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays once assigned independent shift schedule.PayThis is a salaried non-exempt position; ranges listed below are annualized.Factors that may be used to determine actual salary include specific skills, years of experience, education, and certifications.Full range: $95,872 to $134,221Hiring range: $95,872 to $115,047Recruitment notice: Platte River Power Authority does not accept unsolicited resumes from headhunters, recruitment agencies or fee-based placement services.
