Job Title: Power Systems Controls Engineer

Job Description & Responsibilities: 

As a Power Systems Controls Engineer, you will support the design, development, testing, commissioning, and implementation of Microgrid, Power System Automation, and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) solutions using modern automation technologies from leading industry OEMs.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Define, develop, test, and implement control and automation solutions for Microgrid, Power System Automation, and EPMS applications.

• Create and develop Functional Specifications, including Sequences of Operation (SOO) and Bills of Materials (BOMs).

• Collaborate with Electrical Designers to develop complete project drawing packages.

• Develop, test, and deploy PLCs, DCSs, RTACs, IEDs, and HMIs for power system automation applications.

• Configure and integrate devices including protective relays, meters, synchronizers, and other intelligent electronic devices.

• Develop detailed Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) plans and support test execution.

• Support loop checks, system start-up, commissioning, and field troubleshooting to ensure successful deployment of Power System Automation and Microgrid solutions.

• Provide formal and informal customer training on system operation, controls, and automation functionality.

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues with existing control and automation systems.

• Collaborate with project teams, customers, and field personnel to ensure technical requirements and project objectives are successfully achieved.

• Support project execution from initial design through testing, commissioning, and final deployment.

Skills & Qualifications: 

Required Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.

• 3–6 years of relevant controls, automation, or power systems experience.

• Working knowledge of power system automation functions such as:

  • Generator synchronization

  • Automatic system islanding

  • Load shedding

  • Main-Tie-Main (MTM) systems

  • Paralleling switchgear

  • Operational dispatch

• Hands-on experience with one or more of the following technology platforms or equivalent:

  • Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL)

  • Rockwell Automation

  • Siemens

  • Basler

  • Woodward

  • AVEVA

  • Ignition

• Working knowledge of communication protocols commonly used in the power industry, including:

  • Modbus

  • DNP3

  • IEC 61850

  • OPC

  • BACnet

• Ability and willingness to travel approximately 25% for customer meetings, site visits, commissioning, and field activities.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.

• Experience leading technical activities or portions of project scope.

• Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and coordinate the work of others.

• Experience with Microgrid, EPMS, Power Management Systems (PMS), or Power System Automation projects.

• Additional years of relevant controls, automation, or power systems experience.
