About the RoleThis role focuses on medium- and low-voltage power distribution, medium-voltage shredder motor systems, and electrical safety compliance, working under the guidance of senior engineers while gaining increasing ownership of systems, projects, and site support responsibilities.This position supports multiple recycling facilities and requires regular travel.Key ResponsibilitiesDemonstrate strong personal safety leadership and uphold Nucor's safety culture at all times.Support arc flash studies, electrical hazard assessments, and NFPA 70E/70B compliance efforts.Assist in developing engineered solutions to reduce electrical risk and improve personnel safety.Ensure electrical work and designs align with OSHA, NEC, and company electrical standards.Power Distribution SystemsSupport the design, evaluation, and troubleshooting of low‑ and medium‑voltage power systems (480V through 15kV).Assist with power system studies including load flow, short‑circuit, coordination, and arc flash.Troubleshoot plant power issues including voltage drop, nuisance tripping, equipment failures, and reliability concerns.Review electrical one‑lines and schematics and assist with maintaining documentation accuracy.Assist with the technical management and reliability of medium‑voltage shredder motors and associated equipment.Support maintenance and operating strategies for transformers and protection devices feeding shredder systems.Participate in troubleshooting shredder motor issues including startups, trips, overheating, insulation concerns, and power quality impacts.Coordinate with maintenance teams, vendors, and contractors to support repairs, testing, and recommissioning activities.Assist with review of motor test data, maintenance records, and failure investigations.Support upgrades or replacements of shredder motor systems to improve safety, reliability, and performance.Project Support & Field ExecutionServe as a supporting electrical engineer on capital and operational improvement projects.Assist with reviewing contractor designs, drawings, and submittals for compliance and technical soundness.Support site startups, commissioning activities, and troubleshooting efforts.Coordinate with utilities and internal teams as directed by senior engineers or supervisors.Documentation, Tools & Professional DevelopmentMaintain and update electrical drawings, schematics, and documentation (AutoCAD).Learn and apply power system analysis tools (e.g., SKM or equivalent).Participate in training related to electrical safety, power systems, and equipment technologies.Continually build technical skillset toward increased system ownership and Engineer III readiness.Minimum QualificationsBachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.2–5 years of experience in an industrial or heavy manufacturing environment.Working knowledge of industrial electrical power systems, NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA electrical safety requirements, and basic experience or exposure to medium‑voltage equipment and motor systems.Strong troubleshooting aptitude and willingness to work in operating facilities.Ability to travel to support multiple sites.Preferred QualificationsExperience supporting or maintaining medium‑voltage motors and large rotating equipment.Experience with arc flash studies or electrical safety programs.Familiarity with SKM PowerTools or similar power system software.Industrial experience in recycling, metals, mining, or heavy manufacturing environments.Our Commitment to a Drug-Free WorkplaceEmployment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug screening, which includes both urine and hair follicle testing.Nucor is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a drug-free workplace#J-18808-Ljbffr
